Enterprising independents Accidental Productions have taken an impressive next step
with Molly’s Shoes, a lively new work from Adelaide playwright Alex Vickery-Howe.
Undergraduates David (Tim Smith) and Elspeth (Rachel Jones) are challenged by fearless
physics professor Molly Taffy (Katie O’Reilly). Big Bangs and big moral questions, God,
fractals and Chaos theory are tests of human truth and belief – especially when, twelve
years on, the three confront very immediate ethical and metaphysical questions with
the onset of Molly’s dementia. Sympathetically directed by Joh Hartog, this absorbing
production also features John Maurice, Joanne Hartstone (the students in later life) and
Bridget Walters, excellent as the older, infirm Molly finding unexpected new perspectives in
a changed universe.
