It is 2077, the UK is under military rule and an Immigrant breaks into Joan’s house. Sheltering him in her cellar (he calls it an “under room”) she promises to help him find a future – courtesy of  the Fagan-like Jack, a ruthless people smuggler. In Edward Bond’s masterly three-hander, good intentions turn to hatred, and betrayals to savage violence, as a safe haven becomes a prison for all. Tautly directed by Corey McMahon with strong performances by Brad Williams, Kate Roxby and Nathaniel Davison, brave new company, five.point.one,  has found a timely play and reminded us, that for unflinching theatre, Bond is still the name.
